Which Muscles Do Trigger Point Injections Typically Treat?

What should I expect during my trigger point procedure?
For the trigger point procedure, your consultant will place you in a comfortable position for quick and easy access to the trigger point(s). Initially, we will clean the injection areas; we may need to apply slight pressure to confirm the exact location of the trigger point. The trigger point will then receive an injection of a local anaesthetic and possibly a steroid. You may feel some discomfort, but this should subside quickly. The area will soon feel numb and heavy, but this sensation will gradually ease.
After the procedure, we recommend resting for a few hours before returning to your normal activities. You should feel a decrease in pain immediately, although it can take a few days for the full effect to be noticeable. The steroid component of the injection may take up to 10 days to become fully effective.
